Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass, Cumbria. Off the beaten track and worth the trip.

By Train

From London

The easiest route from London is usually:

  • London Euston → Lancaster
  • Lancaster → Barrow or Carlisle
  • Onward to Ravenglass for Eskdale Station

The journey takes around 4.5–5.5 hours depending on connections.

Ravenglass station is:

  • Around 5 minutes drive from Muncaster Castle
  • Walkable to accommodation in the village
  • Connected to the famous La'al Ratty steam railway

From Manchester, trains typically run via:

  • Manchester Piccadilly
  • Lancaster
  • Barrow/Carlisle
  • Ravenglass

Journey time is usually around 3–4 hours.

By Car

Driving is by far the easiest way to explore the western Lake District and gives you much more flexibility for the weekend.

Approximate driving times:

  • London → Muncaster Castle: 6 hours
  • Manchester → Muncaster Castle: 2.5-3 hours
  • Manchester Airport → Muncaster Castle: 3 hours

The final stretch into the western Lakes is especially scenic — expect mountains, lakes, winding valleys and a few sheep.

  • Hire a car
  • Travel by train via Manchester Piccadilly and Lancaster

Parking at Muncaster Castle

There is free on-site parking available at Muncaster Castle for wedding guests.

As the venue is rural, we'd strongly encourage guests planning to drink to make use of taxis or shuttles where possible.

Wedding Transport

We are currently organising local taxis/minibus shuttle services for guests travelling back from Muncaster Castle after the wedding.

The plan is for transport to cover:

  • Ravenglass
  • Boot
  • Eskdale
  • Accommodation where we have reserved rooms for guests
